About Horsepowered Healing

Horsepowered Healing, a 501(c)(3), non-profit, was created because of our passionate belief and experience that horses provide healing for our mind, body, and soul which is purposeful and powerful. Our Warriors and Defenders struggling with the visible and invisible scars of war and other life traumas and challenges are helped by our equine trauma-informed programs. We strive to help our clients transform their lives through the “power of the horse” by emphasizing re-connection with self and others through the beauty and serenity of nature, formation of healthy partnerships with horses, acquisition of new skills and interests, and the discovery of needed life changes.

The programs and services of Horsepowered Healing take place on a 40-acre private farm in Blythewood, South Carolina known as Hoofprint Meadows. Conveniently located, yet still retaining a country feel, the farm provides ample space and privacy. Amenities on the farm include a large covered arena with lights, mounting ramp, accessible guest cabin lounge, sensory trail, horse challenge course, a small pond, bonfire pit, a pond picnic area, and wooded walking/riding trails. Horsepowered Healing is designated as a Military Service Program by the Equine-Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), a distinction which ensures the treatment team is highly experienced and trained to work with our Warriors. We are honored to serve all branches of the military as well as our first responder communities by providing low or no-cost services covered through sponsorship, grants, and donations.

 Our Story

The Horsespowered Healing story begins in 1973 with the childhood encounter of William Rew and Christy Jackson who first met as military dependent children when each of their fathers were stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. Three years later, now teenagers, Bill and Christy met up again in Colorado Springs. Christy’s father was transferred to the Air Force Academy in 1976, where Bill was attending college. This time their relationship progressed until the couple eventually wed in 1980 and merged their lives as Bill’s thirty-four year Air Force career ensued. Collectively moving over 60 times throughout their lives in the military, the couple is happy to call Blythewood, South Carolina their last duty station.

Though it has been over forty years since their first chance meeting, the couple continues to serve the military in their post-Air Force lives: Bill as an independent consultant for the defense industry, and Christy as the business owner and Director of Hoofprint Meadows Therapy, LLC a local business proving equine-assisted services to adults and children of all ages. Through Horsepowered Healing, their non-profit organization, Bill and Christy are able to give back to their military community of which they have always been a part. Focusing exclusively on the delivery of equine-assisted services and utilizing each of their unique skill sets, Bill and Christy support our local heroes with compassion, strength, and understanding through their non-profit organization, Horsepowered Healing. Aided by their herd of horses, and supported by friends, family, volunteers, and business leaders, Horsepowered Healing is dedicated to healing trauma wounds in the Midlands.
